NMdia along with the NM Dream Team will be joining other organizations in Austin TX to fight the racist anti-immigrant law SB4. On memorial Day several organizations from around the country will will hold a rally against this horrible attack on our communities.
Right after the 2016 Election NMdia met with Santa Fe Public Schools official to ask for a safe space for our immigrant students could gather to relax, have fun and to learn about the current political landscape in order to be prepared for the challenges ahead. From November 2016 to the end of the 2017 Spring semester we met every Friday evening to play soccer, which is popular among our immigrant youth, and to give presentations about DACA, ICE and what rights we have and how to protect ourselves.
Who We Our
New Mexico Dreamers in Action (NMDia) is an immigrant student led organization advocating for other immigrant students and immigrant families in the state. Since 2011 NMDia has organized at state level to encourage immigrant students to take advantage of the opportunities in New Mexico available to access higher education and for immigrant rights for our families. And at a national level, as the Santa Fe chapter for the NM Dream Team(United We Dream affiliate,) we have organized for immigrants’ rights and have pushed for policies such as DACA and DAPA.
NMDia is composed of a majority of young immigrants who are or have been undocumented and by children of immigrants. As having been directly affected by our broken immigration system we decided to come together and fight for our selves, our families and our community.
Our mission aligns with the largest national immigrant youth led network in the country (United We Dream) and that is that we seek to address the inequities and obstacles faced by immigrant youth and believe that by empowering immigrant youth, we can advance the cause of the entire community—justice for all immigrants.
We’re driven by and accountable to our thousands of members across the country who make up our sustainable and robust grassroots network. We believe we can build power by organizing at the local, regional, and national levels and aim to provide tools and resources to support our leaders and member organizations, as well as create meaningful alliances with other advocacy organizations.
